Securing the web browser – disabling applets and turning off cookies
Using Internet firewalls and Proxy servers
XML – Driven Web Sites:
XML basics; XML declarative, root, element and attribute items
Rules for well-formed XML documents; document validity
Validating XML web documents with DTD (Document Type Definition) specifications
Creating XML schemas
Using DOMs (Document Object Models) for XML
Appling style to XML documents with XSL (Extensible Style Sheet Language)
Interfacing XML with ASP, JSP and ADO.NET
Web Development Mini-Project:
Students will be required to develop a high-functionality internet web site with the following characteristics –
• Several interlinked web pages with easy inter-page navigation
• Web pages should include frames and graphics
• The site should allow user information to be captured via forms and stored in a backend relational database, using ADO and ASP.NET techniques
• Relevant pages should utilise client-side input validation using JavaScript code
• At least one web page should feature dynamic effects by means of CSS and DHTML
Marks will be awarded for overall functionality, design and ease of use of the web site.
