Review of Internet Web Concepts:

Internet web server and client roles; web browser attributes

Use of http and ftp services for web document transport

Hyper linked web documents and URLs


Structuring the Web Site:

Business requirements analysis for internet sites; determining systemic and document requirements for the site; identifying constraints

Selecting optimal web structures; using document pipelines; navigational considerations

Top-down, incremental, designs for web sites

Document style issues and aesthetics

Using web site templates; customising templates


Web Page Development:

Characteristics of core web page objects – document header/body areas, lists, tables, graphics, frames, frame sets, forms and embedded code

Form text fields, check boxes, radio buttons, passport fields etc

Underlying HTML (Hyper Text Mark-up Language) tags and code for web objects

Animating graphic elements; rollover and scrolling graphics; using image maps

Adding plug-ins e.g. Shockwave and Macromedia flash plug-ins


Applying Styles and Stylesheets:

Benefits of formal ‘style’ definition

Using cascading style sheets (CSS); CSS rules structure and context selectors

CSS versus XSL (for XML) styling

Inline and external style definition
